Drop whatever you’re doing and go out or go online and grab yourself some apple cider vinegar.
Apple cider vinegar uses and benefits
Everyone who is into holistic health usually touts how awesome apple cider vinegar is. I have personally been drinking a tablespoon of vinegar mixed with water everyday for years now and plan to for the rest of my life in addition to using it externally every now and then.
The many apple cider vinegar uses that are touted by many people besides for the treatment of psoriasis include but are not limited to;
- weight loss,
- dry skin,
- dry scalp,
- dry hair,
- deodorant alternative
- constipation, (mixed with honey)
- high cholesterol,
- nail and ear fungus,
- kidney stones,
- jock itch,
- yeast infection, etc.
One thing to remember about using natural remedies is that there is no scientific proof to support all these claims. But you also need to remember that there are no research studies performed because there is not way to profit from many of these natural remedies because they cannot be patented because anyone can make acv or many other natural remedies because nature cannot be patented. There is no financial incentive to conduct studies on these various natural remedies including acv.
What’s so great about apple cider vinegar for psoriasis?
The acidic nature of apple cider vinegar may explain its effectiveness against psoriasis as well as many other diseases and conditions. This acidic nature is also antibacterial, antifungal as well as antiviral.
ACV also contains a myriad of vitamins and minerals that our bodies need as well as enzymes and very important anti-inflammatory properties all of which can help to fight various ailments including psoriasis.
Many Eastern practitioners are of the belief that all sickness and disease including psoriasis are caused by an acidic nature in the body and doing everything to help the body become more alkaline can help to fight off various diseases and conditions and create a healthier body.
Acidic or alkaline?
When people think of acv, one thing they are certain of is that it is acidic and they are partially right because the acidic nature of acv is what helps with healing when used topically. But when taken internally, ACV actually has an alkaline effect in the body by helping to raise the pH levels from an acidic one to a more alkaline one which can help the body become healthier.
There is a certain segment of society that believes that psoriasis results from candida overgrowth (yeast infection) which enables toxins to thrive in the body. Toxins can increase the risk of developing various diseases and conditions and possibly psoriasis. Candida and acv do not mix. The former cannot survive in the presence of the latter.
One of the important benefits of using apple cider vinegar in the body is that it helps to detoxify the body.
Apple cider vinegar taken internally
When using apple cider vinegar for psoriasis treatment internally, most people usually take a tablespoon or two every day of acv mixed with water. YOU MUST DILUTE IT!
Undiluted acv can wear at the tooth enamel unless you wear dentures. Undiluted acv can also cause burns to the sensitive areas of the throat and mouth, therefore it is recommended to mix it with a liquid before drinking it.
Most people commonly mix one or two tablespoons of acv with 8 to 12 ounces of water, tea or milk (soy, almond milk, etc, are better than dairy milk especially for those with psoriasis). You may add honey to improve the taste if you wish.
Apple cider vinegar applied externally
When using apple cider vinegar for psoriasis by applying it externally, there are a number of ways that this can help since external application of acv helps to promote blood circulation, is antifungal and antibacterial and helps to restore normal pH levels on the skin.
ACV also contains alpha hydroxyl acids which help with skin exfoliation which can help eliminate the scales. Some of the ways to use acv externally include;
- Appling it directly to flakes or by soaking certain areas such as hands and feet in a bowl of acv.
- Mixing ACV with baking soda and applying to itchy lesions to halt the itch in its tracks.
- If you are using phototherapy for psoriasis and get burned, acv can help to soothe and heal the burn quite effectively.
One thing to keep in mind when applying acv externally is that it can sting, so you may want to avoid applying it to open lesions unless you have nerves of steel.
Apple cider vinegar for psoriasis of the scalp
Many people with issues with the scalp and hair even those without psoriasis tout the benefits of acv for the scalp and hair so if you suffer from scalp psoriasis, you should begin using acv like yesterday! There is also an amazing find I made which I talk about much later but before that;
An apple cider vinegar rinse has been beneficial to help eliminate flakes and an itchy scalp. You can use undiluted acv on the scalp and hair but most people find this too strong and instead mix equal parts acv and water and apply to the hair and scalp as a final rinse after shampoo and conditioner.
Some people leave this on for 30 minutes to an hour under a shower cap or plastic bag and then rinse while others do not rinse this out. Choose what works for you.
Don’t worry, the smell does go away if you do decide to leave it in. It does not linger.
Use this vinegar rinse two to three times a week depending on the thickness of the scales that accumulate on the scalp as well as the itchiness.
Best apple cider vinegar for psoriasis to use
Most of what is available in grocery stores is useless. Use that to clean or cook with. For use as a natural remedy, you will need acv that is made from organic apples. It should state that it is raw, unfiltered and that it is fermented using traditional methods i.e. unpasteurized.
Most of all, it should state that it contains the “mother” which is where most of the healthful properties of acv reside. The most popular brand seems to be the Bragg Organic Raw Apple Cider Vinegar With The “Mother” which I have used for many years now and highly recommend and it also comes in a glass bottle which is much better than unhealthy plastic.
If you like making various remedies at home from scratch, you can also make your own acv if you don’t have easy access to good quality apple cider vinegar or are into DIY. You should be able to find instructions on how to make acv at home online or offline.

I have psoriasis on my legs. I’ve tried many itch relieve cream but non of them works. I even went to dermatologist but still, the steriod medicine they prescribed didn’t work either. Then I saw this product and was thinking to just give it a try. Surprisely, the marks on my legs started to fade 5 or 6 days after I used the vinegar rinse, and now are almost faded after 10 days of using. I am so happy I found this product, or else I would still suffer from itching. Thanks!!
